Dakota Gasification Company, a forprofit subsidiary of Basin Electric Power Cooperative, owns and operates the Great Plains Synfuels Plant near Beul, ND. The Synfuels Plant is the only commercialscale coal gasification facility in the United States that manufactures natural gas.
Following this, ANR and Basin Electric signed an imaginative cogeneration agreement whereby Basin would build a power plant at the gasification site and reserve power for the coaltogas plant.
